"It all began one year ago, when I joined the UW SHRM Student Chapter. I participated in the NHRMA Student Conference Event that occurred in spring of 2010, by assisting with the programs. Because members of the UW SHRM Student Chapter received HR internships notifications first, I had the privilege to apply for an HR internship with KCTS 9. Not only did I intern at KCTS 9, but it was also how I met Laura, Vice President of Seattle SHRM (also the HR Director at KCTS 9 and the current President of Seattle SHRM). Later, in the fall of 2010, Laura asked that I take on the Director of Web position for the Seattle SHRM, which I accepted. Actively working with HR professionals in the Seattle SHRM, led me to my first full-time position after graduation with a successful software company."

“Joining the UW SHRM Student Chapter was the best choice I made while working towards my HR Degree at Foster School of Business! Through the UW SHRM I participated in the 2010 NHRMA Student Conference and Competition as both competitor and organizer and won first place. The prize was FREE for participating in the 2010 National SHRM Conference in San Diego with all expenses covered by NHRMA; it was an amazing learning experience and a great place to meet more HR professionals. Thanks to UW SHRM I also met the recruiter for the company that I am currently working for and that’s how I got my first HR job after graduation. UW SHRM is the best avenue for a student to make connections in the HR field and expand his/her HR knowledge. It also weights heavily on your resume when applying for jobs or internships. I have really enjoyed being a member of UW SHRM and I am continuing my involvement with SHRM by being the 2011 Job Board Director for the Seattle SHRM Chapter. I would highly encourage any student who is interested in an HR career to join the UW SHRM Chapter and take advantage of all its activities!”
