Seattle SHRM Chapter is proud to sponsor an HRCI/SHRM Professional Certification Scholarship Program. $500 award available to all current Seattle SHRM Chapter Members. Application deadline is March 31, 2020. For more information, email the Certifications Director at

Business leadership has changed over recent decades. We now live and work in a global economy, in which geographic borders are virtually non-existent, and innovation, agility, and strategy are critical success factors. The HR profession operates at that core of those tenants in this global economy. HR has always been the internal driver in ensuring an organization’s competitive edge by securing the right talent and developing the right initiatives to retain that talent. HR is now a critical asset to the risk and reputation management of organizations.  The profession is no longer just about what you know- but how you do your job.

With that being said, HR certifications will demonstrate for HR professionals who we are, what we do and why it matters. Professional certification is meant to benefit the individual, the profession, and the employer. It can open doors for professional advancement, serve to harmonize standards with changing expectations, and signal to employers advanced professional development.

Seattle SHRM encourages all of our members to become certified and we support this effort in three ways:

1) Providing information and resources to support your effort towards certification.
2) Supporting you in maintaining your certification by offering high quality programming in connection with recertification.
3) Offering a scholarship program to reimburse a portion of exam and preparation fees.

In January of 2015 SHRM introduced the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certifications. The letters in the certifications stand for “Certified Professional” and “Senior Certified Professional.” The SHRM-CP is designed for HR professionals who implement policies and strategies, serve as point of contact for staff and stakeholders, deliver HR services, and perform operational HR functions. The SHRM-SCP is designed for HR professionals who develop strategies, lead the HR function, foster influence in the community, analyze performance metrics, and align HR strategies to organizational goals. Both credentials are intended to be applicable across industries, geographic borders, and job responsibilities.
