SHRM/HRCI Certification Scholarship Program

The Seattle SHRM Chapter takes pride in supporting professionals who lead the people side of business. Through education and networking, we elevate the value of HR professionals as partners in developing and executing organizational strategy. The Seattle SHRM Chapter offers countless benefits for HR Professionals, including networking, sharing information about local and national HR news, special interest groups where like-minded HR professionals may stay current in their particular field of interest, monthly chapter meetings with a variety of excellent speakers, and much more.

Achieving and maintaining professional certification in Human Resources is one way for HR professionals to elevate their standing in the profession.  To encourage professional development of its members and to recognize the efforts of members to further their careers in the Human Resources field, the Seattle Chapter of SHRM has established an exciting program to provide financial assistance to those current chapter members who sit for the PHR, SPHR, GPHR certification examination offered through the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI) or the SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification examination offered through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Applicant Requirements

Must be:

·        Seattle SHRM Chapter member in good standing;

·        National SHRM member in good standing and have Seattle SHRM Chapter (#100) designated as primary chapter;

·        Qualified and eligible to sit for HRCI or SHRM certification;

Funds for the scholarship are awarded within a specific calendar year.  Recipients, who are eligible and apply for the scholarship, will only be considered once per calendar year.  Multiple submissions by the same recipient will not be considered eligible for potential funds in the same calendar year, which they have applied more than once.

If there are no qualified recipients for the Spring testing windows, there may be multiple recipients for the Winter testing periods.

 A few words from our 2015 scholarship recipient, Emily Smith:

My goals in joining the Seattle SHRM chapter were to align with industry professionals, become involved and active within the HR community, and continue to grow myself.  The genuine welcome and quick support I have received, far surpassed any expectations I could have had. I have been personally introduced to other members via the board, I have been given the opportunity to volunteer and become involved, and am more than thrilled to receive the Seattle SHRM Scholarship as I am currently in the process of earning my SHRM-CP credential. Seattle SHRM has done more than support my professional goals, they have allowed me to elevate my aspirations. Joining this chapter is the single best thing I have done from my own development this year. I am eager to pay it forward and become part of this organization to provide others with an experience comparable to mine.

From Dana Taylor, a 2015 scholarship recipient:

I am SO grateful to the generosity of Seattle SHRM. The scholarship they provided me in 2015 helped smooth the process (and stress!) of preparing and studying for the PHR exam. I couldn't have passed the exam and advanced in my career as a HR professional without the support of the group, especially the encouragement to get certified to begin with. Thank you, Seattle SHRM!
