Washington Paid Family and Medical Leave – Here We Go!

Starting in 2020, Washington will be the fifth state in the nation to offer paid family and medical leave benefits to workers. This session will help you understand the legislation and regulations, prepare you to communicate how this benefit works on its own, or in conjunction with other leaves and benefits.

We hope you join us to learn how to best prepare yourself, your HR department, and your organization for this new program!

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the employee benefits of Washington’s Paid Family and Medical Leave Program
  • Learn the employer and employee requirements of the program
  • Learn how this program interacts with FMLA and other offerings your company may have
  • Learn how employers are notified that an employee has requested leave through the State
  • Learn how to communicate details to your team

Matt LaPalm is the Small Business Specialist in the Paid Family and Medical Leave team at the Employment Security Department. With a background in small and medium businesses, he has specialized knowledge of how this new statewide insurance program will impact Washington’s small and independent employers.
