Join us as we discuss the leave benefits, legal requirements for Washington businesses, and important deadlines approaching this fall.



Washington will be the 5th state to offer statewide paid family and medical leave. This program offers all Washington employees up to 12 weeks of paid leave during life’s most challenging moments. This statewide insurance program is funded by employees and most employers and could be critical to employee retention, managing training costs, and global competitiveness. Employers have action to take in 2019.  Get a jump on 2019 and learn how your business can prepare to implement this mandatory program presentation by the Washington State Employment Security Department.

Silvia Lugo is a Communications and Outreach Specialist with Washington State’s new Paid Family and Medical Leave Program. As a working mother with a commitment to helping families, Silvia is excited to spread the word about this historic program throughout our state. Silvia is an experienced communications professional and in her work with both the private and non-profit sectors, she has specialized in outreach, events, and social media. She received her undergraduate degree in Social Science from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in Global Communications from the American University of Paris. Silvia is originally from Southern California but now goes on adventures with her husband and two daughters from their home base in Olympia.

*Students must be enrolled in the equivalent of 6 credit hours (minimum) per term in a degree seeking program including coursework related to Human Resource Management.


Refund Policy: We will gladly issue refunds for event registrations that are canceled before the registration deadline. Because we need to make venue arrangements and order meals in advance, we are unable to refund registration fees after the deadline. No-shows who have registered but not paid in advance will be billed. Substitutions are always welcome. Please request your substitute to inform the registration desk that they are attending in your place.


Seattle SHRM is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP.
