All In for Equal Caregiving: The New Legal Frontier

Approved for 1 HRCI general credit and 1 SHRM-SCP and SHRM-CP PDC

Gender dynamics in the workplace are changing faster than ever. From the #MeToo campaign helping topple sexual harassers and predators to a growing fight for equality, it’s about time!

How can businesses adapt and encourage men to become co-champions for change?  The answer requires ending myths about men.

Some of the important topics Josh will be covering include:

  • Discover secret realities of men, particularly fathers, in the workplace and what they mean for laws, policies, and stigmas that hold back gender equality and business success
  • Analyze the financial impact these problems have on businesses big and small
  • Piece through tangled web of conflicting rules that shape work-life balance efforts
  • See how the state of Washington’s upcoming paid family leave policy (to begin in 2019 for funding/ 2020 for use) can impact businesses and why both education and cultural changes are necessary to make it work to its best potential

Josh Levs is an entrepreneur, former CNN and NPR journalist, and the leading global expert on issues facing modern fathers in the workplace. He is the author of the award-winning book All In: How Our Work-First Culture Fails Dads, Families, and Businesses–And How We Can Fix It Together (HarperOne 2015). Josh spent 20 years reporting, where he developed unique expertise on nonpartisan fact checking and created a role covering modern families and developed unprecedented expertise in assessing the realities of today’s dads.

He then stepped into a global spotlight by taking legal action against Time Warner (CNN’s parent company) for fair parental leave so he could care for his preemie daughter and sick wife. The company ultimately embraced his call, revolutionizing its policy to make it better for moms and dads. With the publication of his book, All In, Josh became the leading voice for modern dads at work, shining a light on their unknown struggles. He now works with corporations, organizations, universities and more to build policies that support men as equal caregivers, a crucial step toward ensuring equal career opportunities to women.
